About the Placement

This 12-month Quality Placement offers hands-on experience across all aspects of product and process quality — from design and supplier management to issue resolution and continuous improvement.

During your placement, you’ll work on real projects that enhance production quality, reduce risks, and improve processes. Your specific responsibilities will vary by site, depending on the nature of the facility and its priorities.

You may be involved in:

Investigating and resolving quality issues using structured problem-solving methods (e.g. RCCA).

Conducting product and supplier audits.

Reviewing materials and analysing data trends.

Supporting implementation of process and performance improvements.

Managing aspects of supplier quality and documentation systems.

Placement Opportunities by Site

Cheltenham – Supplier Quality

Identify and implement efficiency and productivity improvements.

Manage a small portfolio of suppliers under supervision to gain experience in supplier quality management.

Caledonian (Prestwick) – Product Quality

Support the aircraft engine overhaul process at our state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) facility.

Assist with root cause investigations, process audits, and data analysis.

Contribute to the rollout of new quality initiatives.

Dowty (Gloucester) – Supplier Quality

Support resolution of product quality issues from in-house production or the supply chain.

Manage the Approved Supplier List (ASL) and maintain database records.

Issue quarterly supplier updates and assist in supplier performance reviews.

GE Caledonian (Prestwick, Scotland)
A leading MRO centre for CF6 and GEnx engines, with cutting-edge facilities and a dedicated test cell. The site employs skilled engineers passionate about training and leadership development.

GE Aerospace Cheltenham (Gloucestershire)
One of the largest GE Aerospace sites outside the U.S., focused on advanced power distribution and avionics systems for commercial, business, and military aircraft.

Dowty Propellers (Gloucestershire)
A world leader in composite propeller systems for aircraft such as the C-130J, Dash 8-400, and C-27J. The site’s expertise in resin transfer moulding and fibre braiding has defined industry standards since 1976.

Development and Career Path

This placement serves as a pipeline to the GE Aerospace Operations Management Leadership Program (OMLP) — a highly regarded graduate scheme offering accelerated development in Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality.

Placement students who perform strongly will be encouraged to apply for OMLP before the end of their placement year, with the potential to secure a graduate offer prior to returning to university (subject to achieving a 2:1 or above).

Qualifications / Requirements

Currently studying for a Bachelor’s or integrated Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aeromechanical), Business, or Data Analytics, or a related field.

On track to achieve a minimum 2:1 classification.

In your penultimate year of study, returning to university after the placement.

Demonstrated interest in Quality, Product Quality, or Supplier Quality.
