Overview
Brighton & Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is seeking an experienced practicing GP to join as an Associate Professor or Professor of General Practice within the Department of Primary Care & Public Health. This senior academic role combines research, teaching, and leadership responsibilities, supporting BSMS’s strategic objectives in medical education and applied research.
Key Responsibilities
Research Leadership: Develop and lead an independent research program. Research areas of particular interest include global health/infection, cancer, mental health, health inequalities, population health, prevention, and coastal community health. Collaborate with the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) in Kent, Surrey & Sussex to foster primary care research engagement.
Teaching: Deliver and enhance undergraduate and postgraduate courses in general practice. Lead initiatives to provide high-quality GP student placements, Student Selected Components, and 4th-year Individual Research Projects.
Professional Engagement: Maintain a 0.2 FTE role in a local GP practice and hold an honorary NHS contract. Support collaboration with external organizations to strengthen educational and research networks.
Leadership: Contribute to departmental and School-wide strategic planning. Professorial candidates are expected to demonstrate national and international leadership in their field, with exceptional achievements in research, education, and management.
