About the Role
The University of Sussex is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Systems Neurodevelopment Laboratory led by Dr Varun Sreenivasan.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of developmental neurobiology and systems neuroscience. The successful candidate will investigate how postnatal expansion of the motor cortex into non-motor areas contributes to the reorganization of sensorimotor circuits.
The project will involve integrating advanced experimental techniques, including:
In vivo whole-cell electrophysiology
Optogenetics
Viral circuit tracing
Behavioural imaging and analysis
About You
You should:
Hold (or have submitted) a PhD in Neuroscience or a closely related discipline
Have hands-on experience in at least one of the following:
- In vivo electrophysiology
Two-photon imaging
Optogenetics
Behavioural studies in rodent models
Be proficient in data analysis using MATLAB or Python
Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, including building and troubleshooting experimental setups
Be capable of managing your own research while contributing to collaborative projects
Communicate scientific findings clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences
