About the Role
We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join a dynamic project titled:
“The effects of permanent school closures on pupils’ outcomes.”
This research is funded by the Nuffield Foundation and will involve the design and implementation of rigorous quantitative analyses using large-scale administrative data.
You will be a key contributor to research planning, data analysis, academic writing, and dissemination efforts. While some hybrid/remote work is possible, successful candidates must be UK-based.
Key Responsibilities
You will be expected to:
- Design and conduct quantitative and causal statistical analyses.
- Manipulate and interpret large administrative datasets.
- Prepare research outputs—tailored for both academic and policy audiences.
- Support project dissemination and communication activities.
- Collaborate with project team members across disciplines.
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- A PhD (or near-completion) in Economics or a closely related field.
- Strong skills in quantitative methods and econometrics.
- Experience working with large datasets and statistical programming tools such as Stata, R, or Python.
- Excellent written communication and the ability to draft research papers and reports.
It is desirable (but not essential) to have completed the Safe Researcher Training programme, designed for secure work with sensitive data — offered by the UK Data Service.
