Role Overview
This fellowship is designed for a doctor who wants to deepen their expertise in medical education while maintaining limited clinical involvement. The post focuses on strengthening undergraduate teaching programmes while contributing to postgraduate skills development and simulation-based education.
Working closely with education leaders and clinical teams, the fellow will play an active role in shaping how learners experience teaching within a specialist children’s hospital environment.
Collaboration with academic partners — including UCL Medical School — is central to the role, ensuring educational standards remain modern, practical, and learner-focused.
Key Responsibilities
The successful fellow will:
- Help design and maintain undergraduate teaching timetables
- Build strong working relationships with departments delivering teaching
- Coordinate and analyse student feedback to improve learning quality
- Encourage student research and quality-improvement projects
- Promote engagement between hospital staff and academic partners
- Support clinical task training and simulation learning
- Contribute to research activity, presentations, and publications related to medical education
Working Pattern
- 4 days/week: Postgraduate Medical Education department
- Up to 1 day/week: Clinical activity in the fellow’s chosen specialty
- This structure allows continued clinical development while building formal educational leadership skills.

This opportunity suits doctors in specialty training (ST2–ST5+) — or an equivalent non-training grade — who want to expand their role in education without stepping away from clinical practice.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council
- Primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent)
- Royal College membership (MRCS, MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent)
- Minimum two years’ NHS clinical experience
- Formal teaching experience
- Understanding of educational principles in clinical settings
