Job Description
The Purpose of the Role
This Farm24 position exists so daytime vets can concentrate on preventative herd health and routine care, while you specialise in emergency response. You’ll become a trusted presence for farmers during critical situations — from obstetrics to urgent surgical cases — often working autonomously while maintaining strong collaboration with the wider practice.
Expect a caseload that is varied, seasonal, and rewarding. Spring brings hands-on obstetrics and surgical challenges, while quieter periods allow valuable recovery time during your off weeks.
Working Pattern — Designed for Real Balance
Your schedule is structured to protect wellbeing while ensuring reliable emergency cover:
- 1 week on / 3 weeks off rotation
On-call hours:
- 6pm–8am Monday–Thursday
- 6pm Friday–8am Monday
- Alternative rota (1 week on / 1 week off) available by discussion
- This model gives you extended recovery time — ideal for travel, outdoor pursuits, or simply resting between intensive working weeks.
Clinical Environment & Coverage Area
Based in Keith, you’ll serve farms and equine clients across Moray. Emergency calls can be handled from your own home if local, or from comfortable accommodation provided during working weeks.
The caseload includes:
- Farm animal emergency care
- Surgical and obstetric interventions
- Equine urgent treatment
- Independent night decision-making
- Relationship building with farming clients
- This is a surgically engaging role suited to a vet who enjoys hands-on problem solving and fieldwork.
Lifestyle & Location
Living and working in northeast Scotland offers exceptional outdoor access. Within easy reach are the mountains of Cairngorms National Park and the waterways of the River Spey — perfect for hiking, canoeing, wildlife watching, and exploring rural landscapes. The region combines farming heritage, welcoming communities, and space to decompress after intensive clinical weeks.
Salary & Practical Support
- Salary up to £31,000 DOE (1 week on / 3 weeks off pattern)
- Up to £7,500 relocation allowance
- Vehicle provided
- On-site accommodation during working weeks
- Visa sponsorship available
- Holiday allowance taken during off weeks
Professional Growth & Wellbeing
- As part of the wider network supported by IVC Evidensia, you gain access to structured development and wellbeing resources:
