February 20, 2026

Job Description

The Opportunity

We’re recruiting a confident small animal vet to help strengthen and relaunch an emergency out-of-hours service supporting a local Scottish community. This is a rare chance to combine meaningful clinical impact with a rota that genuinely prioritises downtime and recovery.

You’ll manage urgent cases independently during on-call periods, working either from a fully equipped clinical site or remotely with accommodation provided. The role suits a vet who enjoys emergency medicine, sound decision-making, and delivering calm, compassionate care when it matters most.

A Rota Designed for Real Balance

This position follows a one-week-on, three-weeks-off structure, allowing extended personal time between working blocks.

On-call week schedule:

  • Monday–Thursday: 6pm–8am
  • Friday 6pm–Monday 8am
  • Saturday mornings covered by the day practice

Local vets may work from home; accommodation is available for non-local clinicians. Alternative rota patterns (e.g., one week on/one week off) can be discussed with a pro-rated salary adjustment.

Your Day-to-Day Focus

  • Deliver emergency consultations and stabilisation care
  • Make confident clinical decisions independently
  • Support continuity of care with local practices
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with clients
  • Uphold high standards of safety and clinical governance
