Job Description
Imagine delivering life-saving veterinary care for one focused week, then having the next three weeks completely free. Whether you’d spend that time travelling, exploring Scotland, or simply enjoying a slower pace of life, this role is designed to give you clinical fulfilment without burnout.
We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a confident small animal veterinary surgeon to play a key role in relaunching and shaping our emergency out-of-hours service in Moray. This is more than just an OOH position — it’s a chance to make a real difference to local pets, clients, and referring practices, while enjoying exceptional work–life balance.
The Opportunity
This role is ideally suited to a vet who is comfortable managing emergency and urgent cases independently and enjoys the challenge and satisfaction that emergency work brings. You’ll provide essential overnight and weekend care, working either from your own home (if local) or from comfortable accommodation provided during your working week.
Strong clinical judgement, calm decision-making, and compassionate client communication are key. You’ll be supported by an established daytime team and play an important role in strengthening emergency provision for the wider community.
Working Pattern That Works for You
We’ve designed the rota to protect your wellbeing while allowing you to do your best clinical work.
Standard rota (preferred):
- One week on / three weeks off
- Monday–Thursday: 6:00pm – 8:00am
- Friday 6:00pm – Monday 8:00am
- No expected calls between 8:00am – 12:00pm on Saturdays (covered by the practice)
Alternative option:
We’re also open to discussing a one-week-on / one-week-off pattern, with salary adjusted accordingly.
This flexibility makes the role ideal for vets seeking part-time emergency work, portfolio careers, or those wanting extended personal time between shifts.
Why Join Us?
We’re proud to serve the Moray community with accessible, high-quality veterinary care. Having recently strengthened our large animal and equine out-of-hours services, we’re now investing in small animal emergency care — and we want you to help shape its future.
Alongside a supportive environment and meaningful work, you’ll receive:
- Salary up to £31,000 DOE (based on 1-week-on / 3-weeks-off rota)
- Up to £7,500 relocation allowance
- Accommodation provided during on-call weeks
- Visa sponsorship for eligible overseas candidates
- Holiday allowance taken during off weeks
- Standard IVC Evidensia benefits package
