The Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH) is a multidisciplinary centre dedicated to improving the health of individuals and populations through evidence-based primary care research.

PCPH’s work spans the full lifecycle of complex interventions, from understanding patient health problems to designing, evaluating, and implementing practical solutions. The department is part of the UCL Institute of Epidemiology & Healthcare (IEHC) and the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, with strong connections to local and national primary care networks, datasets, and other NIHR schools.

The Primary Care Education Group within PCPH is internationally recognized for its excellence in clinical education research, teaching, and training.

Role Overview

This NIHR-funded Clinical Lecturer post provides up to four years of postdoctoral training for a General Practitioner aiming to become an independent researcher, educator, and leader in clinical education research.

Key responsibilities include

  • Developing a coherent programme of clinical education research in primary health care.
  • Conducting research and analysis to inform evidence-based educational interventions.
  • Contributing to teaching, mentorship, and academic leadership within primary care education.
  • Collaborating with national and international research networks to maximize impact.
  • Eligibility and Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be fully registered with the General Medical Council.
  • Be on the NHS GP Performers List.
  • Have completed GP vocational training and hold the MRCGP or equivalent.
  • Have submitted their PhD/MD thesis at the time of application and be fully awarded by 1 September 2026.
  • Demonstrate outstanding potential as an independent researcher, educator, and leader in clinical education.
  • Restrictions: Applicants who have already completed an NIHR Clinical Lectureship are not eligible.

Appointment Details

  • Salary: CL8.12 (£82,701) + Market Supplement (£17,383) + London Allowance (£4,678)
  • Funding: Four-year fixed-term NIHR funding, external funding confirmed initially.

Appointment is subject to:

  • DBS disclosure
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Visa sponsorship: This role is eligible for UK Skilled Worker or Global Talent visa for international applicants.
