Job Description
Emergency work that’s intense — but actually sustainable
If emergency and critical care is where you do your best work, but you no longer want exhaustion, isolation, or unsafe pressure to be part of the deal, this role is worth a closer look.
This opportunity is designed for an ECC vet who wants meaningful clinical challenge, structured night working, and proper recovery time —all within a hospital that takes staff wellbeing as seriously as patient outcomes.
The Hospital & Its Ethos
This role sits within a 24-hour veterinary hospital in Bolton that has intentionally redesigned how night ECC work should function.
Rather than relying on lone vets or crisis-driven rotas, the hospital operates a fully supported night service with experienced nurses, reliable handovers, and facilities capable of managing complex inpatient cases end-to-end.
The organisation itself operates as a Community Interest Company (CIC). That means decisions are guided by social purpose rather than profit extraction. Accessible veterinary care, transparent pricing, and reinvestment into people and clinical standards are central to how the hospital is run — and it genuinely shows in day-to-day working life.
What Makes This Role Different
A hospital designed for emergency medicine
This is a large, modern site built to support high-quality ECC work, including:
- Multiple consulting rooms and theatres
- Digital radiography and dental suite
- CT imaging
- Dedicated ICU
- Separate dog and cat wards
- Everything is in place to allow you to practise medicine properly, not improvise overnight.
Real continuity of care
You’ll manage true inpatient and emergency cases rather than simply stabilising and passing on. The caseload includes both medical and surgical emergencies, with orthopaedic procedures supported weekly by the wider clinical team.
A genuinely collaborative culture
Hierarchy is intentionally minimal. Clinical discussions are open, nursing staff are highly skilled and actively involved, and decision-making is shared. Respect for judgement and experience is part of the culture, not a slogan.
Values-led clinical practice
Free consultations and clear, transparent pricing are fundamental to how care is delivered. Many vets find this approach restores pride and purpose in their work.
