Registered Mental Health Nurse (Band 5) – Psychiatric Intensive Care

Are you a compassionate nurse looking to make a profound difference in acute mental health? Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking for motivated Registered Nurses to join our specialist Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Maple Ward.

As part of a newly unified Trust of over 13,000 professionals, you will be at the forefront of a modern, integrated healthcare system dedicated to excellence.

​The Role: Impact and Responsibilities

​In this role, you aren’t just monitoring patients; you are an architect of recovery. You will work within a high-functioning Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to support adults (ages 18–65) during the most acute phases of their mental health journeys.
​

Key Clinical Duties:
​

Assessment & Planning: Design, implement, and evaluate bespoke care programmes based on diagnostic reasoning.

​Direct Care: Deliver high-quality nursing interventions to achieve the best possible health outcomes for patients and their families.

​Leadership: Supervise junior staff and students, ensuring clinical standards are met across the ward.

​Advocacy: Act as a safeguard for patient rights under the Mental Health Act 1983.
​

Discharge Coordination: Facilitate seamless transitions back into the community or lower-intensity care settings.
​

Requirements:

  • Registration: Current UK professional registration (RMN, RNLD, or Adult Nurse).

  • Education: Evidence of ongoing Professional Development (CPD).

  • Clearance: This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Employment Details & Benefits

  • Salary: £31,049 – £37,796 per annum (Agenda for Change Band 5).

  • Contract: Permanent, with Full-Time, Part-Time, and Flexible Working options available.
    ​
  • Location: The Orchards, St James’ Hospital, Portsmouth.
    ​
