About the Role

The Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Reading invites applications for a Teaching-Focused Lecturer in International Relations, to join the team on a 12-month fixed-term basis from 1 September 2025.

This role has arisen due to the short-notice departure of a permanent colleague and presents an excellent opportunity for an academic with expertise in international security (broadly defined).

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, engaging teaching across the field of International Relations, with key responsibilities including:

  • Convening and teaching a postgraduate module on “War in Theory and Practice”
  • Contributing to core undergraduate modules in International Relations and international security
  • Potentially supporting research methods training, if experienced
  • Supporting students through academic supervision and guidance
  • Participating in student recruitment and departmental administrative duties

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has the expertise and confidence to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Can deliver intellectually stimulating content, particularly within international security
  • Brings enthusiasm for student support and departmental engagement
  • Is a collegial and adaptable team member committed to high academic standards
