Help Shape the Next Generation of Field Ecologists
The University of Reading is internationally recognised for excellence in environmental and ecological research. We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Field Ecologist to join the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Division within the School of Biological Sciences.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative teaching, field-based training, and the academic development of students preparing for careers in ecological consultancy, conservation, and environmental research.
About the Role
As Lecturer in Field Ecology, you will:
- Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Contribute to field-based modules and practical ecological survey training.
- Support programmes such as BSc Ecology and Wildlife Conservation, BSc Zoology, and MSc Ecological Survey Skills.
- Undertake administrative responsibilities within the School.
- Support a vibrant postgraduate research community.
The Division explores life at every scale—from genes and organisms to ecosystems and global change—integrating research excellence with applied environmental practice.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from motivated academics or experienced practitioners with a strong applied background.
Essential requirements include:
- A PhD (or DPhil) in Ecology or a closely related discipline.
- Expertise in ecological survey methods, habitat assessment, and plant identification.
- Knowledge of the UK ecological consultancy sector.
- Familiarity with UKHab classification and Biodiversity Net Gain frameworks.
- A commitment to inclusive and engaging teaching practice.
- Applications from candidates with ecological consultancy experience are particularly encouraged.
