About the Role

The School of Agriculture, Policy and Development (SAPD) at the University of Reading is seeking a part-time Lecturer to support the growth of our newly launched BSc Bioveterinary Sciences programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the teaching, curriculum development, outreach, and administration of the degree, while also establishing or continuing your own research in areas such as animal health, welfare, or behavior. Applicants with expertise in livestock welfare, veterinary microbiology, physiology, nutrition, or sustainable animal production are especially encouraged to apply.

You’ll be part of a collaborative, internationally recognized department that values interdisciplinary research and education.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and practical sessions across relevant subjects including physiology, microbiology, and nutrition.

Act as an Academic Tutor for undergraduate students.

Optionally, supervise or co-supervise postgraduate research students.

Participate in curriculum design and support the ongoing development of the BSc programme.

Contribute to the research agenda of the Department of Animal Sciences and develop your own research profile.

Support public engagement and outreach where appropriate.

About You

We’re looking for a motivated and collaborative academic with the following:

A PhD in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, or a related discipline, and/or veterinary qualifications, and/or equivalent professional and academic experience.

A solid foundation in animal welfare, behavior, or veterinary science, particularly in livestock or sustainable food production.

Excellent teaching and communication skills, with a passion for delivering engaging education.

The ability to develop or contribute to high-quality research, particularly in collaboration with existing teams at Reading.

Strong organisational and time management skills.

A positive, team-oriented attitude and enthusiasm for collaborative teaching and research.
