Job Description
A Senior Veterinary Role With Purpose and Real Influence
This is not a role for someone who simply wants to be the most senior clinician on the rota.
This opportunity is designed for an experienced veterinary surgeon who values leadership as much as clinical excellence—someone who wants the authority, trust, and time to shape standards, mentor people, and influence outcomes across an entire hospital.
If you are motivated by improving how care is delivered, supporting teams to thrive, and building a sustainable clinical culture, this role offers the space and backing to do exactly that.
The Hospital Environment
You will join a large, purpose-built 24-hour veterinary hospital in Shrewsbury, created around a clear mission: delivering accessible, high-quality veterinary care without compromising professional standards or staff wellbeing.
The hospital operates with a strong, established leadership structure. As Lead Veterinary Surgeon, you will work closely with an experienced Practice Manager and Lead Nurse, forming a collaborative leadership triad that guides clinical quality, people development, and operational effectiveness.
Rather than constant firefighting, the emphasis is on clinical governance, coaching, and thoughtful leadership.
Facilities Built for High-Quality Medicine
The hospital has been designed to support proper clinical decision-making and a varied caseload, including:
- Two fully equipped operating theatres, including one for advanced procedures
- A dedicated dental suite
- Separate dog and cat wards, with a strong feline-friendly approach
- Five consulting rooms
- A clinical team that includes certificate holders in surgery
Your Role as Lead Veterinary Surgeon
In this role, you will:
- Define, implement, and uphold clinical standards across the hospital
- Coach and mentor veterinary surgeons at different stages of their careers
- Lead clinical meetings and governance discussions with confidence
- Partner with management on performance reviews, KPIs, and financial awareness
- Promote ethical, patient-first decision-making, supported by transparent pricing and free consultations, rather than sales targets
- All clinical practice aligns with RCVS standards and professional conduct guidance
