About the Role
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Interventional Radiologist to join our dynamic and expanding Radiology Department. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a modern, high-volume service equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including Siemens Artis-Q, Dyna CT, Cydar AI, IVUS, lithotripsy, and a newly refurbished radiology day unit.
You will contribute to both vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology, including emergency procedures, elective vascular cases, image-guided biopsies, and regional vascular imaging. Over 70% of vascular interventions are now day-case procedures, reflecting our efficiency and commitment to patient-centered care.
In 2026, our service will expand further with a 79m hybrid IR theatre as part of a new surgical and critical care wing. Flexibility is offered through hybrid working, with home PACS access available for remote reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe and effective interventional radiology procedures for vascular and non-vascular cases.
- Participate in a non-resident 1:6 on-call rota, supported by an experienced team of IR nurses and radiographers.
- Conduct IR clinics, MDT meetings, and image-guided procedures, contributing to service growth and patient care.
- Report on regional vascular imaging and assist with general diagnostic reporting.
- Collaborate across the Somerset and North Devon vascular network, serving a population of over 800,000.
- Engage in teaching and training for undergraduates, postgraduates, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to clinical audit, quality improvement, and research initiatives.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Registration
- FRCR or equivalent (Royal College of Radiologists)
- Full GMC registration (GMC Registration)
- Radiology CCT, CESR (CP), or completion within 6 months of interview.
- Desirable Qualifications
- Subspecialty fellowship in Interventional Radiology.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of IR training, including vascular and non-vascular procedures.
- Broad experience in general radiology, clinical audit, and evidence-based medicine.
- Teaching experience and ability to train multidisciplinary staff.
