Position Overview

Are you experienced in managing international research partnerships, compliance, or research security? The University of Oxford is looking for an experienced International Collaboration Manager to join its Trusted Research Team within Research Services.

This is a senior-level opportunity for someone who can assess complex international research risks, provide practical guidance to researchers, and contribute to the development of institutional policies and processes.

Location: 5 Worcester Street, Oxford, OX1 2BX
Salary: Grade 8, £49,119 – £58,265 per year (pro rata for part-time hours)
Contract: Fixed term until June 2028
Working Pattern: Full-time or part-time

Research Services

The Trusted Research Team

The Trusted Research Team forms part of the Research Funding and Contracts function within Research Services.

The team focuses on research security, compliance and international collaboration risks. Its responsibilities include handling casework, supporting researchers, developing institutional policies and helping establish effective approaches to managing emerging research-security issues.

The team was recognised with the HERSA Trusted Research Team of the Year award for 2026, alongside colleagues from the Nuffield Department of Medicine, recognising its collaborative work with academic departments and colleagues across the University.

Your Role

As International Collaboration Manager, you will take on a senior role within the Trusted Research Team and provide specialist guidance to researchers, academic departments and professional services colleagues.

A major part of your work will involve assessing international research collaborations and identifying potential risks. You will advise researchers on appropriate steps and help them continue valuable research activity while meeting relevant compliance and security requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

– Advising researchers and departments on international collaboration and trusted research risks.
– Assessing issues involving due diligence, export controls and the National Security and Investment Act.
– Providing practical, evidence-based advice and identifying suitable actions.
– Working with professional services teams and other stakeholders where specialist input is required.
– Designing and managing internal monitoring and compliance approaches.
– Engaging with research groups to promote effective management of international collaboration risks.
– Raising awareness of trusted research and research-security requirements across the University.
– Contributing to the development of institutional policies, procedures and working practices.
– Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
– Representing Oxford through relevant external networks and professional groups, including the Higher Education Research Security Association.
– Preparing strategic briefings and advice for senior University colleagues.
– Contributing to responses to national consultations and developments affecting research security and international collaboration.

We are seeking an experienced professional who understands the challenges associated with international research partnerships, compliance or related areas.

You should be able to analyse complicated information, identify the key issues and turn your findings into clear, practical recommendations.

You will ideally bring:

– Significant experience in international collaboration, compliance, research security or a closely related area.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
– Strategic thinking and sound professional judgement.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– The ability to explain complicated subjects clearly to people without specialist knowledge.
– Confidence in handling substantial amounts of information and identifying the most important issues.
– A pragmatic and well-reasoned approach to providing advice.
– The ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
– Confidence working independently while also contributing positively as part of a collaborative team.

The successful candidate will be required to complete Horus Enhanced Security Vetting following appointment.
