Role Summary

This is an exciting training-focused position for a motivated individual seeking a career in hospital pharmacy. As an Intermediate Dispensing Assistant, you will support the pharmacy team in ensuring that patients receive the right medicine at the right time.

This post combines on-the-job learning with formal training through a Level 2 Pharmacy Services Apprenticeship, which includes monthly virtual college attendance and home study (minimum 10 hours per month).

You will gain practical experience in the dispensary, working alongside pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in dispensing medications under supervision to ensure patient safety
  • Prepare and assemble medicines accurately, following standard operating procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of dispensed items and stock levels
  • Support pharmacy staff in day-to-day operational tasks
  • Participate actively in the apprenticeship programme and complete required coursework
  • Communicate effectively with team members and other healthcare staff

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade D/3 or above, including English and Maths
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email, internet)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and take instruction
  • Commitment to completing apprenticeship training
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to manage time effectively, work under pressure, and follow SOPs

Desirable Experience

  • Previous exposure to healthcare or public sector work
  • Experience in hospital or pharmacy settings
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritise tasks effectively

Working Pattern & Requirements

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
