Minehead Medical Centre is looking for a dedicated General Practitioner with a strong interest in palliative and end-of-life care to join our team on a permanent basis.
This is more than a clinical role — it’s an opportunity to shape local services, support colleagues, and make a meaningful difference to patients and families during some of life’s most important moments.

Minehead is a welcoming coastal town in Somerset, positioned on the Bristol Channel and close to Exmoor National Park. The surrounding countryside offers exceptional quality of life with easy access to Bristol and Taunton.

Appointment Length: 15 minutes
What You’ll Be Doing
As GP with a Special Interest in Palliative Care, you will:
- Deliver comprehensive general practice services alongside specialist palliative input
- Lead advance and anticipatory care planning, including sensitive DNACPR discussions
- Provide expert symptom control and medication optimisation
- Help reduce avoidable hospital admissions through proactive care coordination
- Work closely with community nurses, hospices, secondary care clinicians and social services
- Act as a clinical lead for palliative care within the practice
- Support colleagues and contribute to service development and quality improvement
- This is a community-based role involving practice work and home visits.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from GPs who:
- Are registered with the GMC and included on the GP Specialty Register
- Are listed on the NHS Performers List
- Have post-CCT experience in Primary or Urgent Care
- Can demonstrate postgraduate training or experience in palliative medicine (e.g., Diploma in Palliative Medicine or relevant RCGP modules)
- Have experience working across multidisciplinary teams
- Show strong organisational skills and a proactive clinical approach
- Are passionate about delivering equitable, high-quality NHS care
