GP with a Special Interest in Palliative Care
Make a meaningful difference in a beautiful coastal community

Are you a compassionate GP who believes that end-of-life care should be as dignified and personal as every other stage of life? We are looking for an experienced General Practitioner with a strong interest in palliative and end-of-life care to join our supportive team in Minehead.

This is more than a clinical role. It’s an opportunity to lead, collaborate and help shape a local service that truly supports patients and families at some of the most important moments of their lives.

The Role: Blending General Practice with Specialist Focus

In this position, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality general practice care alongside specialist palliative input
  • Lead advance care planning conversations, including DNACPR discussions
  • Support symptom control and medication optimisation for patients with advanced illness
  • Work proactively to prevent avoidable hospital admissions
  • Provide clinical leadership for palliative care within the practice
  • Collaborate closely with community nursing teams, hospices, PCN colleagues, social care and secondary care providers
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
  • You will work both within the practice and across community settings, including care homes and patients’ homes.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Registered with the General Medical Council
  • On the GP Specialty Register
  • Listed on the NHS Performers List
  • Post-CCT with experience in Primary or Urgent Care

Able to demonstrate postgraduate training or structured experience in palliative care (for example, RCGP End of Life Care modules or a Diploma in Palliative Medicine)

  • Experienced in multidisciplinary working across community and secondary care
  • Organised, proactive and confident in clinical leadership
  • For reference, information about professional registration requirements
