Position Summary
HT Practice is offering an exciting opportunity for a Salaried General Practitioner to join a well‑established and supportive group of GP surgeries across Tameside, Greater Manchester. This permanent role is ideal for a GP seeking clinical variety, flexibility, and professional security, without the administrative or financial responsibilities of partnership.
You will have a named base practice for your routine clinical work, with the opportunity to provide short‑term clinical cover across neighbouring practices when required. This structure supports continuity of care while also offering exposure to different patient populations and clinical teams.
The post is suitable for GPs looking to build a portfolio career within a safe, collaborative, and training‑focused environment.
Key Details
Location: The Highlands Surgery (base practice), Ashton‑under‑Lyne
Cover practices include Medlock Vale, King Street Medical Centre, and West End Medical Centre
- Sessions: 4, 6, or 8 sessions per week
- Salary: £10,500 per session (per annum)
- Start date: Flexible
- Contract type: Permanent, salaried
- Visa sponsorship: Tier 2 / Skilled Worker sponsorship available
Core Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
Provide high‑quality, patient‑centred General Practice services at your base surgery, including:
- Face‑to‑face and telephone consultations
- Clinical administration such as reviewing blood results and hospital correspondence
- Maintain excellent standards of clinical documentation using EMIS and Docman systems.
Cross‑Practice Cover
- Offer occasional clinical cover at other HT Practice sites to support planned GP leave or short‑term staffing needs.
- Work collaboratively with established multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and consistent patient care.
Governance & Professional Practice
- Contribute to clinical governance, safeguarding, and quality improvement activity.
- Work within national and local clinical guidelines, maintaining revalidation and appraisal requirements.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and licence to practise
- Completion of the MRCGP training programme (or imminent completion)
- Inclusion on the NHS England GP Performers List, or eligibility for inclusion
- Recent experience working in UK General Practice
- Strong clinical, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary primary care teams
- Competence in clinical IT systems, including EMIS and Docman
- Right to work in the UK, or eligibility for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working across more than one GP practice or PCN
- A special clinical interest (e.g. women’s health, minor surgery, palliative care, teaching)
- Experience in GP training, supervision, or mentoring
- Additional qualifications relevant to General Practice
