Key Responsibilities

As a Salaried GP, you will provide comprehensive primary care services, including:

  • Conducting face-to-face, telephone, and online patient consultations
  • Diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions
  • Prescribing medications and monitoring ongoing treatments
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team discussions and care planning
  • Supporting preventative healthcare and health promotion initiatives
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and ensuring safe prescribing practice
  • You will also be encouraged to pursue special interests, teaching roles, or leadership activities within the practice and wider network.

The Practice Team

You will be joining a collaborative multidisciplinary team consisting of:

  • 3 GP Partners
  • 2 Salaried GPs
  • GP Specialty Trainees (GPSTs) and medical students

Practice nurses

  • A clinical pharmacist who is an independent prescriber
  • Healthcare assistants running chronic disease clinics
  • Dedicated prescribing and medicines management team
  • GP support officers providing administrative support

Each salaried GP is paired with a named mentor, ensuring guidance and support throughout their professional development.

Services Provided

The practice offers a variety of enhanced clinical services, including:

  • Joint injection clinics
  • Shared care prescribing arrangements
  • DOAC initiation and monitoring
  • Warfarin monitoring
  • Insulin and injectable therapy initiation and review
  • Substance misuse treatment programmes
  • Chronic disease management clinics

About the Practice

Cwm Calon Surgery serves approximately 5,500 patients within the Blaenau Gwent area of Wales. The practice is recognised as a training practice, committed to developing the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Following the recent award of the contract to manage Aberbeeg Medical Practice, the organisation is expanding its clinical team to support patients across both sites.

The leadership team consists of enthusiastic and forward-thinking partners, including a GP Partner who also serves as Chair of the local Neighbourhood Care Network (NCN).

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: £11,000 – £12,000 per session per annum

Remuneration follows a progressive pay scale based on:

  • Experience as a GP
  • Years post-CCT
  • Additional skills or clinical responsibilities

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • MBChB / MBBS medical degree
  • MRCGP with Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
  • Inclusion on the All Wales Medical Performers List or willingness to apply
  • Details on registering with the GMC are available

Desirable Experience

While not essential, the following experience would be advantageous:

  • Experience working within UK primary care
  • Participation in teaching or training programmes
  • Interest in developing a specialist clinical area
  • Leadership or quality improvement involvement
