Job Description

Make a Difference to Farming Communities in West Wales

We’re seeking a skilled and motivated Farm Veterinary Surgeon to join our dedicated Out-of-Hours (OOH) team, supporting farmers across Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, and Cardiganshire. This role is perfect for vets who thrive in emergency situations, particularly obstetrics and acute farm presentations, but value flexibility, balance, and the ability to shape their role around their lifestyle.

You’ll provide reliable, sustainable emergency cover for local farmers when they need it most, building trust and strong professional relationships across a diverse agricultural community. This is your chance to make a real difference, supporting both animal welfare and the livelihoods of farmers.

A Varied and Rewarding Caseload

Your primary focus will be on farm out-of-hours emergencies, including:

  • Obstetric cases (calving, lambing, etc.)
  • Acute medical and surgical presentations on beef, sheep, and mixed farms
  • Independent decision-making during on-call periods

The caseload is seasonal, with busy spring months complemented by quieter periods, offering valuable downtime for rest, recovery, and continued professional development. Depending on location, emergencies can be attended from home or from provided accommodation during on-call periods.

Flexible Working That Fits Your Life

We understand that every vet has different priorities. That’s why we offer a truly flexible working structure, including:

  • One week on / one week off or two weeks on / two weeks off OOH patterns
  • Alternative rota patterns discussed individually
  • Optional day work during off weeks to maintain or expand clinical skills
  • Flexibility on start dates and work arrangements

We’ll work with you to shape the role around your preferences, whether you want a purely OOH focus or a blended schedule with day work.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary up to £65,000 FTE DOE
  • Vehicle provided for on-call emergencies
  • Accommodation provided during on-call weeks if needed
  • Visa sponsorship for eligible candidates (Skilled Worker visa)
  • Standard IVC Evidensia benefits package
  • Holiday allowance aligned with your working pattern
  • Life in West Wales

West Wales offers stunning countryside, coastline, and a close-knit farming community, making it an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a slower pace of life. Whether you enjoy hiking, cycling, or exploring the coast, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, and Cardiganshire provide a perfect balance of work and lifestyle.
