About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Family Nurse to join our integrated 0-19 Public Health Nursing team, delivering the evidence-based Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) programme.

FNP is a licensed, intensive home-visiting programme for first-time young parents (typically under 20 at conception), aimed at improving antenatal health, child development, parenting confidence, and long-term family outcomes. It forms a specialist tier of the Healthy Child Programme and uses strengths-based, trauma-informed approaches to build strong parent-child relationships and family resilience.

As a Family Nurse, you’ll manage a caseload of up to 25 clients, providing intensive, structured support through regular home visits. You’ll help families access local resources like Best Start Family Hubs, Neighbourhood Health Teams, education, and primary care services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing specialist FNP training and achieving national competencies (covering areas like motivational interviewing, attachment theory, child development, adolescent brain development, and reflective supervision)
  • Building trusting, therapeutic relationships with young parents and families, often in complex or challenging circumstances
  • Using evidence-based tools to promote positive parenting, self-efficacy, behaviour change, and healthy attachments
  • Applying advanced skills in communication, motivational interviewing, solution-focused techniques, and trauma-informed practice
  • Working independently while collaborating in a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to supervision, data review, and service improvements
  • Handling sensitive issues, including safeguarding, emotional distress, or family difficulties, always keeping the child’s wellbeing at the centre

What We are Looking For

You should be:

  • A qualified Family Nurse (with FNP training) or an experienced NMC-registered nurse or midwife with substantial expertise in child health, public health, or family support
  • Passionate about supporting young or disadvantaged families, with proven experience in child safeguarding and complex case management
  • Skilled at forming respectful, culturally sensitive relationships and communicating clearly, even with sensitive or emotional information
  • Confident working in emotionally demanding situations while staying focused on positive child and family outcomes
  • Strong in risk assessment, prioritisation, problem-solving, and lone working
  • Committed to strengths-based, motivational, and trauma-informed approaches

We recognise NHS continuous service for annual leave and sickness purposes for successful nursing candidates, and existing NHS Pension Scheme members can continue contributing.
