We are seeking a proactive and data-confident Engagement Officer to join the Study Advice team within the Library at the University of Reading. This role plays a vital part in supporting students on the Home Foundation Year pathway—ensuring they remain engaged, supported, and positioned to achieve their academic potential.
Working in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment, you will combine analytical expertise with empathetic communication to help students navigate challenges and stay on track.
What You’ll Be Doing
This is a role that blends data insight with human connection. You will:
- Lead the collection, interpretation, and monitoring of engagement, attainment, and progression data for Home Foundation students.
- Identify patterns that indicate potential academic risk and take early, supportive action.
- Make first contact with students who may benefit from additional guidance, arranging timely referrals where needed.
- Prepare analytical reports to support institutional planning, monitoring, and quality assurance.
- Contribute to refining processes that enhance student engagement and academic performance.
- The position is based in the Library at the Whiteknights campus, a welcoming and professional setting that values staff development and continuous improvement.
About You
- We are looking for someone who is both analytical and approachable. You should demonstrate:
- An A-level in a maths-based subject or strong practical experience in data analysis.
- Confidence in handling and interpreting numerical data to identify meaningful trends.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively and professionally with students and staff.
- An understanding of factors influencing student engagement and academic achievement.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience in a student-facing, advisory, or customer-focused role.
- The ability to produce clear written reports grounded in data analysis.
- A genuine interest in improving processes and supporting continuous development.
