Are you an aspiring mathematics teacher eager to begin your career in a school that genuinely prioritises your growth and success?

We are excited to welcome a dedicated and passionate Early Career Teacher (ECT) to our Mathematics & Enterprise Faculty at Harwich and Dovercourt High School (HDHS).

About Our School

Located on the scenic north-east Essex coast, HDHS is a thriving 11–16 comprehensive school and a valued member of The Sigma Trust.

We maintain high standards, consistent routines, and a warm, inclusive community feel. Literacy, academic rigour, and personal development are woven into every aspect of school life. Our core values—Achieve, Belong, Connect, Develop—guide our approach to teaching, behaviour, and pastoral support, ensuring every student receives both encouragement and appropriate challenge.

Exceptional Support for Early Career Teachers

We have a proven record of nurturing new teachers and helping them flourish.

Successful candidates can opt for a July 2026 start, giving you valuable extra time to:

  • Get to know your classes and daily routines ahead of the busy September term
  • Collaborate closely with your mentor and faculty colleagues
  • Participate in planning and resourcing for the upcoming year
  • Start forming positive relationships with students in a low-pressure setting

This head-start has helped many of our ECTs begin their main teaching year feeling confident, organised, and ready.

Additional benefits include:

  • A protected timetable reduction as per ECF requirements
  • Strong team collaboration, including joint planning and resource sharing
  • Well-established behaviour systems so you can concentrate on delivering great lessons
  • Access to excellent professional development opportunities throughout the Trust

We never leave our ECTs to figure things out alone. We invest thoughtfully in your development—many of our early career colleagues have progressed quickly into wider roles within the school and across the Trust.

Your Role as a Mathematics Teacher

In this position, you will:

  • Design and teach engaging, structured lessons that drive strong student progress
  • Foster a calm, focused, and respectful classroom atmosphere
  • Use assessment data thoughtfully to shape your teaching
  • Play an active part in developing and improving the mathematics curriculum
  • Work closely with colleagues to refine and share best practice
  • Build constructive relationships with parents and carers
  • Support the broader school community (e.g., through tutoring or enrichment activities if needed)

We are searching for an energetic, clear-thinking individual with real passion for mathematics and a firm belief that every student can make excellent progress with the right support.

Essential Qualities We Value

To thrive here, you should:

  • Be working towards or already hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Possess strong subject knowledge suitable for Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Hold yourself and your students to high standards
  • Be reflective, receptive to feedback, and eager to grow through coaching
  • Be fully committed to safeguarding and promoting inclusion
  • Show genuine enthusiasm for contributing to school life beyond your classroom

Visa sponsorship is available for outstanding international candidates who meet all eligibility requirements.
