ResearchPlus is an emerging collaboration of research-focused universities across the UK, including institutions such as University of Sussex and Brunel University London.
The initiative brings together universities that play a vital role in shaping the UK’s research, innovation, and higher education landscape. Its purpose is to:
- Strengthen collaboration between institutions
- Influence national research and education policy
- Promote the value of universities to government, industry, and society
- As the partnership grows, it aims to become a respected and influential voice in UK higher education and research policy.
 About the Role
This is a unique leadership opportunity to shape a new organisation from the ground up.
As Director, you will take responsibility for both strategic direction and day-to-day operations, ensuring ResearchPlus develops into a credible and impactful partnership.
You will:
- Lead policy development and strategic planning
- Represent ResearchPlus in discussions with government, policymakers, and regulators
- Build relationships across universities and external stakeholders
- Drive advocacy and influence within the higher education sector
- Oversee operational delivery and organisational growth
Reporting directly to the co-chairs (currently Vice-Chancellors from Sussex and Brunel), you will initially operate as the first core team member, helping to establish a lean and agile structure.
 About You
You are a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of the UK higher education and research environment.
Key strengths:
- Proven leadership or senior management experience
- Strong knowledge of higher education or research policy
- Ability to analyse complex policy environments and provide strategic insight
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills
You will also:
- Be confident engaging with senior stakeholders, including government bodies
- Have the ability to turn ideas into practical initiatives
- Thrive in collaborative environments, building consensus across institutions
- Be highly organised and comfortable working in a fast-evolving setting
 Working Arrangements
While employed by the University of Sussex, the role offers flexibility. Depending on preferences and organisational needs, you may also be based at Brunel University London or work across locations.
