Job Description
Shape the First Impression of Sussex
We are seeking a confident and analytical leader to take on the role of Data and Enquiries Manager within the Communications, Engagement and Advancement (CEA) Division.
This position sits at the intersection of student recruitment, customer service excellence, and strategic data insight. You will lead a small team responsible for delivering a responsive and accurate enquiry service to prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students, ensuring that every interaction reflects the University’s values and professionalism.
Beyond service delivery, you will use data to inform strategy — transforming complex applicant information into clear, actionable insights that guide senior decision-making and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Be Doing
Leading the Enquiries Function
- Oversee email and telephone enquiry responses to ensure accuracy, consistency, and high-quality service
- Develop team capability and maintain performance standards
- Step in to handle front-line enquiries during peak periods when required
Recruitment & Engagement Activity
- Plan and manage call campaigns and recruitment events
- Oversee registration processes to ensure accurate and secure data capture
- Ensure all data handling complies with GDPR and institutional standards
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Extract, analyse and interpret data from multiple internal systems
- Produce clear and insightful reports for senior leadership
- Identify trends across pre-applicant and applicant pipelines
- Contribute to institutional service improvements and growth strategies
This is a role that combines operational delivery with strategic oversight — ideal for someone who enjoys both managing people and working directly with data.
About You
You will be an experienced team leader with a strong analytical mindset and a commitment to excellent customer service.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Proven experience managing staff and maintaining service quality
- Advanced data analysis skills and confidence working across multiple systems
- Ability to translate complex data into clear reports and recommendations
- Understanding of, or willingness to develop expertise in, UK undergraduate and postgraduate admissions processes
- Confidence working within GDPR requirements
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
You will be equally comfortable reviewing performance dashboards as you are answering prospective student queries during busy recruitment cycles.
