Job Description
The Role
The University of Sussex is seeking an experienced and proactive Data and Enquiries Manager to lead a specialist team delivering a high-quality enquiry service for prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students.
This role sits at the intersection of customer service, data intelligence, and student recruitment strategy. You will ensure that all enquiries—across email, phone, and campaign activity—are handled accurately, consistently, and professionally, while also using enquiry and applicant data to inform service improvement and senior decision-making.
Balancing hands-on operational delivery with strategic oversight, you will manage staff performance, lead recruitment-focused activities such as call campaigns and events, and step in to support front-line enquiries when required.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Leading and developing a small team delivering student enquiry services
- Ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent responses across all enquiry channels
- Planning and delivering recruitment initiatives, including call campaigns and applicant events
- Overseeing enquiry and event registration processes to ensure high-quality data capture
- Ensuring full compliance with UK GDPR and data protection legislation
- Analysing pre-applicant and applicant data from multiple systems
- Producing clear, actionable reports to support senior leadership decisions
- Identifying trends and insights to improve recruitment activity and customer experience
- Working collaboratively with academic schools and professional services teams
About You
You will be a confident people manager with strong analytical skills and a genuine commitment to delivering excellent customer service. You will be comfortable working with complex datasets and translating data into clear insights that support institutional goals.
You will bring:
- Experience managing staff in a customer-facing or data-led environment
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills, with experience using multiple systems
- Knowledge of, or the ability to develop expertise in, UK undergraduate and postgraduate admissions
- A strong understanding of data protection and GDPR compliance
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- A flexible, hands-on approach, including supporting enquiry handling when needed
You will thrive in a role that requires both strategic thinking and operational delivery, and you’ll be confident communicating with colleagues at all levels.
