Dairy Maintenance and Research Technician
Harper Adams University

Harper Adams University is conducting cutting-edge research aimed at reducing the environmental impact of dairy farming, helping the UK achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. We are looking for a motivated Dairy Maintenance and Research Technician to join our research team. The role will involve investigating dietary strategies to reduce methane, nitrogen, and phosphorus emissions from dairy cows, as well as improving nutrient use efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and repair dairy cow research equipment, including individual feeding systems, methane measurement devices, and the mixer wagon.

Research Support: Assist academic staff, post-doctoral researchers, and postgraduate students with the setup and operation of methane monitoring equipment on commercial dairy farms. Support data and sample collection.

Data Collection: Assist with research on Harper Adams University’s dairy research unit and metabolism unit, including sample preparation and data collection.

Animal Husbandry: Support the daily care of dairy cows, including feeding, recording data, and sample collection. Occasional weekend work may be required.

Technology Transfer & Teaching: Help academic staff and technicians deliver technology transfer events and contribute to teaching activities.

Qualifications and Skills:

Ideally, a degree in a relevant field, or proven experience with farm equipment maintenance and operation.

Working knowledge of animal hygiene and health & safety regulations.

Full, clean driving license is essential.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications.

Ability to work independently, plan and manage your workload, and collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Experience working with farm animals and conducting laboratory analysis is desirable.
