Job Overview
We are seeking a Consultant in Acute Medicine to join our team at Broomfield Hospital. This is a full-time, permanent role, offering the opportunity to provide expert care in a fast-paced Emergency Department.
As a Consultant, you will:
- Provide specialist advice and treatment for patients presenting with acute medical emergencies.
- Share responsibility for the delivery and development of acute services alongside other consultants.
- Support and mentor trainees, junior doctors, and multi-disciplinary colleagues.
- Contribute to operational decision-making and ensure alignment with modern NHS acute care strategies.
- You may be an established Consultant seeking new challenges or a Specialist Trainee approaching CCT, eligible for your first Consultant post.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred care within the Emergency Department.
- Act as a clinical leader, supporting trainees and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives and quality audits.
- Liaise with management and clinical teams to resolve operational issues.
- Apply research and audit findings to improve patient care and outcomes.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Registration:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full GMC registration with entry on the Specialist Register, or eligible for entry within six months of CCT.
- Completion of specialist training or equivalent.
- Experience supervising undergraduates, junior doctors, and other staff.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience supervising postgraduate research.
- Recent published clinical research in peer-reviewed journals.
Skills & Experience:
- Broad and comprehensive knowledge of acute medicine, able to provide expert opinion.
- Ability to work independently, taking full responsibility for patient care.
- Familiarity with NHS structures, culture, and multi-professional teamwork.
- Evidence of teaching, audit, and research application.
