Shape the Future of Neurology in Somerset
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its neurology service and is seeking two forward-thinking Consultant Neurologists to join our established and supportive team.
This is an opportunity to practise as an independent general neurologist while building and leading a subspecialty service aligned with your expertise. Although applications from all subspecialties are welcome, a special interest in epilepsy would be particularly valued.

Your Role
As a Consultant Neurologist, you will:
- Deliver comprehensive general neurology services across Somerset
- Lead and develop a subspecialty clinic based on your clinical interest
- Provide outpatient services across multiple hospital sites
- Participate in inpatient neurology care and ward referrals at Musgrove Park Hospital
- Join the duty neurologist rota, with protected inpatient focus during duty weeks (no outpatient clinics scheduled)
- Contribute to teaching, research and clinical trials supported by the Clinical Research Network
- Take an active role in audit, governance and service improvement
- Our Team & Clinical Environment
You will be joining:
- Six substantive Consultant Neurologists
- An expanding registrar workforce
- A specialist MDT including epilepsy nurse specialists, MS nurse specialists, headache practitioners, a neuro-pharmacist, consultant physiotherapist and clinical psychologists
- Tertiary neurosurgical and interventional neuroradiology services are provided in partnership with Southmead Hospital.

What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Full registration with a licence to practise from the General Medical Council
- GMC registration guidance
- CCT in Neurology (or within six months of completion at time of interview)
Essential Experience & Skills
- Ability to work autonomously as a general neurologist
- Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and high-quality patient care
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit
- Ability to lead and develop a clinical service
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
Desirable Attributes
- Subspecialty expertise (epilepsy particularly welcomed)
- Experience in education, teaching or research
- Understanding of NHS systems, clinical governance and financial awareness
- NHS structure overview
- Evidence of service improvement with measurable outcomes
