Overview of the Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Learning Disabilities to join a newly formed and evolving NHS Trust. The role focuses on providing clinical leadership and expert input to the Community Adult Learning Disability Service on the Isle of Wight.

The service is multidisciplinary and collaborative, bringing together professionals across psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and creative therapies. There are also ongoing plans to expand services further, including the development of an Intensive Support Team.

To attract experienced candidates, the Trust is offering a £30,000 Golden Hello (subject to terms and conditions).

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Consultant, you will play a central leadership role within the team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing senior clinical oversight and direction for patient care
    Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure clear roles and coordinated care delivery
    Supporting a culture of openness, safety, and continuous improvement
    Ensuring that risks are identified, managed, and reviewed effectively
    Promoting strong communication across teams and partner organisations
    Encouraging collaboration and shared decision-making within the team
    Ensuring patients and carers have clear information and access to appropriate support
    Contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives

What You’ll Need

Essential Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
    MRCPsych (or equivalent recognised qualification)
    CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry (or within 6 months of completion)
    Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register
    Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act

  • This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
    Skilled Worker visa sponsorship is available for eligible candidates
    Overseas applicants must meet UKVI criminal record requirements
    Applicants must hold valid UK professional registration
