About the Role
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and forward-thinking Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disability to play a pivotal leadership role within the Community Adult Learning Disability Service on the Isle of Wight.
As part of a newly established NHS Foundation Trust, the successful post-holder will provide clinical leadership, strategic oversight, and expert psychiatric input, helping to shape a modern, responsive, and compassionate service for adults with learning disabilities.
You will work within a well-established, multidisciplinary team and contribute to the ongoing development of services, including the planned introduction of an Intensive Support Team, aimed at reducing hospital admissions and supporting people in their communities.

The Team
The Community Adult Learning Disability Team on the Isle of Wight is a friendly, skilled, and committed multidisciplinary service, comprising:
- Clinical Psychology
- Learning Disability Nursing
- Occupational Therapy
- Physiotherapy
- Art Therapy (newly introduced role)
The team works closely with Experts by Experience, carers, partner organisations, and wider system colleagues to deliver person-centred, strengths-based care.
Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:
- Provide senior clinical leadership and psychiatric expertise to the community learning disability service
- Work collaboratively with senior clinicians to ensure clarity of roles, responsibilities, and professional accountability
- Lead on clinical governance, patient safety, and risk management systems within the service
- Ensure effective communication and information sharing across teams and partner organisations
- Promote inclusive team working, encouraging contribution, shared decision-making, and reflective practice
- Oversee the coordination and continuity of care, particularly where care is shared across services
- Support service development initiatives, including the implementation of intensive community support models

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Registration
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- MRCPsych or equivalent recognised qualification
- CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry, or within 12 months of CCT at interview
- Eligible for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
