We are delighted to offer an outstanding opportunity for a Consultant in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (CAMHS) to join Austen House, a specialist adolescent low secure service within Hampshire & Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
This role offers a rare chance to help shape a newly configured 7-bed low secure unit, supporting young people with highly complex mental health needs and increased levels of risk. You will play a pivotal leadership role, delivering trauma-informed, recovery-focused care while influencing the future direction of this specialist service.
About Austen House
Austen House provides specialist low secure inpatient care for adolescents requiring a safe, structured environment and intensive therapeutic input. The service is built on collaborative, trauma-informed practice, with a strong emphasis on formulation-driven care, positive risk management, and young-person-centred decision-making.
You will work within a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, therapists, and allied professionals, all committed to delivering compassionate and evidence-based care.
The Role
As Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist, you will provide clinical leadership for the service and hold overall responsibility for the psychiatric care of young people admitted to the unit.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, risk formulations, and treatment planning
- Acting as Responsible Clinician, including Mental Health Act responsibilities
- Managing a small, highly complex caseload within a secure environment
- Leading and supervising the multi-disciplinary team, promoting best practice and reflective working
- Embedding trauma-informed and recovery-focused approaches across the service
- Contributing to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and service development
- Supporting teaching, supervision, and professional development of colleagues and trainees

Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- CCT in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
- Eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months at interview)
- Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act
- Relevant higher qualification (MD, PhD, MSc, or additional clinical qualification)
