Shape a specialist CAMHS service from the ground up
We are inviting applications from an experienced and motivated Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join Austen House, a newly configured 7-bedded adolescent low secure unit within Hampshire & Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
This role offers a rare opportunity to help shape a specialist service designed to support young people with complex, high-risk mental health needs in a safe, therapeutic, and trauma-informed environment. You will play a central leadership role, influencing clinical standards, service development, and the culture of care from an early stage.

Your role as Consultant Psychiatrist
As Consultant in CAMHS at Austen House, you will take clinical leadership responsibility for young people admitted to the low secure unit. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking comprehensive psychiatric assessments and developing individualised care and risk management plans
- Acting as Responsible Clinician, including oversight of Mental Health Act responsibilities
- Leading and supporting the multi-disciplinary team, promoting trauma-informed and evidence-based practice
- Managing a small, complex caseload, ensuring continuity and quality of care
- Contributing to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
- Supporting training, supervision, and professional development of colleagues
- Playing an active role in the ongoing development of the service
- This role would suit a consultant with strong clinical judgement, leadership ability, and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people in secure CAMHS settings.

Essential qualifications & eligibility
You must have:
- Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- CCT in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or eligibility for the Specialist Register (or within 6 months at interview)
- Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Relevant higher qualification (e.g. MD, PhD, MSc, or equivalent)
