Role Overview
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for a Community Support Worker to join the York-based team supporting children and young people within the Neurodevelopmental CAMHS pathway.
This role offers a rewarding opportunity to work directly with young people and their families in a community setting. The successful candidate will contribute to a multidisciplinary team that provides assessments, support, and evidence-based interventions for children experiencing neurodevelopmental or mental health challenges.
You will play an important role in helping families access the support they need while promoting positive development, wellbeing, and independence among children and young people.

The York Neurodevelopmental CAMHS team brings together professionals from a range of disciplines including nursing, psychology, therapy services, and social care.

Key Responsibilities
The Community Support Worker will assist the multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality care and support within the neurodevelopmental pathway.
Supporting Young People and Families
- Provide practical and emotional support to children, young people, and their families.
- Assist with delivering care based on recognised evidence-based approaches.
- Promote a person-centred approach to care that respects individual needs and circumstances.
Therapeutic and Group Support
- Help facilitate group interventions designed to support young people and their families.
- Assist clinicians in implementing care plans and therapy programmes.
Community Engagement
- Work with families in community settings to support positive outcomes.
- Signpost families to appropriate services when additional support is required.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with healthcare professionals across the multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to meetings and discussions about patient care and service improvements.
Record Keeping and Communication
- Maintain accurate documentation and patient records.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, and families.

Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
The salary for this position does not currently meet the minimum threshold required for sponsorship under the Health and Care Skilled Worker visa route.
Qualifications and Training
Essential Requirements
Candidates should have:
- Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), or willingness to complete within two years of starting the role.
- Level 2 literacy and numeracy qualifications (or equivalent).
- Completion of the Care Certificate or willingness to achieve it within the first 12 weeks of employment.
Experience
Essential
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Previous experience working in a healthcare or social care environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
Desirable
Experience in the following areas would be beneficial:
- Supporting children or young people with mental health or social care needs
- Working with individuals with learning disabilities or developmental conditions
Knowledge and Understanding
Successful candidates should have:
- Understanding of person-centred care approaches
- Awareness of relevant legal and professional frameworks in healthcare
- Understanding of safeguarding principles and responsibilities
- Guidance on safeguarding childrenÂ

Travel Requirement
Due to the community-based nature of the role, candidates must be able to travel independently across the service area when required.

This position requires a criminal record check through the Disclosure and Barring Service due to the nature of the work with children and vulnerable individuals.
