Job Description

The Opportunity

Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is seeking an experienced and motivated General Practitioner to join its undergraduate medical education team as a Clinical Senior General Practice Teaching Fellow. This part-time role offers the opportunity to shape and deliver high-quality teaching in general practice and generalist medicine, while maintaining a clinical career.

You will play a key role in the design, delivery, and ongoing development of teaching across core clinical skills, communication skills, and specialty general practice content. The post sits at the heart of BSMS’s integrated curriculum, ensuring that general practice perspectives are embedded throughout medical education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver undergraduate teaching in general practice, including clinical reasoning, consultation skills, and holistic patient care.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring teaching content remains current, evidence-based, and aligned with national standards.
  • Support the recruitment, development, and quality assurance of GP placements and the wider network of GP educators.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create innovative learning resources and assessment materials focused on general practice and integrated care.
  • Participate in evaluation and enhancement of teaching and assessment approaches across the curriculum.
  • Engage with GP practices as required, including occasional travel to support placements and teaching delivery.

About You

This role is well suited to a practising GP seeking to build or expand a portfolio career with a strong educational focus. You will bring:

  • Current registration and good standing with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Experience and enthusiasm for undergraduate medical teaching in general practice or related settings.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage your own workload and contribute to team priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with academic colleagues, GP teachers, and external stakeholders.
  • A flexible and proactive approach, with a commitment to high-quality, inclusive medical education.

While the post is offered at 0.4 FTE initially, there may be scope for flexibility in working patterns at a later stage.
