The Opportunity
Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) invites applications from an experienced and motivated General Practitioner to join us as a Clinical Senior General Practice Teaching Fellow. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a practising GP who wishes to develop a portfolio career combining clinical insight with meaningful undergraduate medical education.
You will play a key role in shaping how future doctors understand general practice, integrated care, and patient-centred medicine—bringing real-world clinical expertise directly into the undergraduate curriculum.
What You’ll Be Doing
As part of our established GP teaching team, you will:
Design, deliver, and continuously enhance undergraduate teaching in:
- General practice
- Clinical and communication skills
- Integrated and generalist care
- Contribute to curriculum development, including innovative teaching and assessment methods aligned with modern healthcare needs
- Support the recruitment, development, and quality assurance of GP placements and GP tutors across our regional network
- Collaborate closely with academic, clinical, and professional colleagues to ensure teaching remains current, inclusive, and evidence-based
- Participate in maintaining high educational standards in line with national medical education expectations set by bodies such as the General Medical Council (GMC)
- Some travel to local GP practices will be required as part of this role.
About You
This position is ideally suited to a currently practising GP who is:
- Passionate about undergraduate medical education
- Interested in developing a long-term academic-clinical role
- Able to manage their own workload while supporting colleagues when needed
- A clear and confident communicator, comfortable engaging with students, educators, and external stakeholders
- Open to flexible working arrangements (within service needs), with potential scope to increase FTE in the future
