Role Overview

The Clinical Research Practitioner supports NIHR portfolio research projects while providing clinical cover within the Research and Innovation Department.

This role combines administrative and clinical tasks, including:

  • Assisting with patient recruitment, data collection, and study coordination
  • Performing clinical procedures under supervision such as phlebotomy, ECGs, and cannulation
  • Supporting research nurses and study investigators to ensure smooth study operations
  • Contributing to accurate and timely documentation of research data

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in research studies from patient recruitment through to data analysis
  • Undertake delegated clinical tasks (e.g., phlebotomy, ECGs, cannulation) under supervision
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of research activity and patient data
  • Support compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other regulatory frameworks
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, providing reliable and professional support

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Understanding of research data flow and documentation processes
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • GCSE ‘C’ or above in English and Maths, or equivalent
  • Satisfactory level of general education and written/spoken English
  • NVQ Level 2 in care, or willingness to work towards
  • Experience within an acute healthcare or research environment

Desirable:

  • Oncology experience or interest
  • Cannulation or phlebotomy skills
  • Experience with patient record systems and data collection
  • GCP training or NVQ Level 3 in care
