We are delighted to offer a rewarding opportunity to join our established Community Mental Health Service (CMHS) in Bridgwater as a Band 7 Practitioner (Registered Mental Health Nurse and qualified Non-Medical Prescriber).

Position Details

  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Standard hours usually 9am–5pm, with options for flexible/condensed working patterns and adjustable start/finish times
  • Permanent contract
  • Band 7 salary: £47,810 – £54,710 per year (Agenda for Change)
  • Location: Glanville House, Church Street, Bridgwater, Somerset TA6 5AT

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Prescribing

  • Lead and run high-quality specialist clinics (Clozapine, Depot injections, and Wellbeing), delivering safe monitoring, prescribing, titration, and follow-up care.
  • Independently prescribe psychotropic medications within your competence, including starting, reviewing, and adjusting treatments to optimise outcomes.
  • Support prompt access to medications, increased monitoring where needed, and overall medicines management across the team’s shared caseload.
  • Carry a defined caseload of adults with severe and enduring mental health conditions, providing specialist assessments, care planning, psychosocial interventions, and thorough risk management.
  • Offer expert medication guidance to GPs, team colleagues, and external partners.
  • Integrate physical health checks, smoking cessation support, and holistic wellbeing into care delivery.

Leadership & Team Contribution

  • Act as a clinical leader, providing supervision, mentorship, and guidance to colleagues, trainees, and other practitioners.
  • Champion recovery-oriented, evidence-based approaches throughout the service.
  • Foster a positive, compassionate team culture by modelling collaborative and supportive behaviours.
  • Work closely with Consultant Psychiatrists, managers, and the wider multidisciplinary team to maintain high standards and seamless care.

Service Improvement & Governance

  • Take part in clinical audits, quality improvement projects, service evaluations, and research to drive ongoing development.
  • Help shape and implement best-practice guidelines and strategic plans within the service.
  • Stay current with mental health legislation, safeguarding, policies, and professional standards.

Administrative & Professional Duties

  • Keep accurate, secure, and up-to-date records using the Trust’s digital systems, in line with GDPR and confidentiality rules.
  • Produce reports for meetings, tribunals, or multi-agency discussions as required.
  • Commit to regular supervision, annual appraisals, mandatory training, and continuous professional development (CPD).

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications & Registration

  • Professional qualification as a Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Qualified Non-Medical Prescriber (V300 or equivalent)
    Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)

Essential Experience

  • Substantial post-qualification experience working with severe mental illness in specialist settings
  • Experience collaborating across different services, agencies, and professional groups
  • Background in clinical practice, audits, and delivering training/teaching to varied staff

Desirable

  • Additional specialist qualifications (e.g., diploma/master’s level in relevant areas)
  • Training in clinical supervision or management/leadership

Other Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle for business use (with appropriate insurance)
  • Ability to travel locally and work flexibly in community environments, including occasionally challenging situations
