Role Summary
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced Critical Care nurse ready to step into a leadership and education-focused role.
As a Clinical Nurse Educator within the Critical Care Unit at William Harvey Hospital, you will help shape clinical practice by supporting staff development, maintaining high standards of patient care, and strengthening the learning culture within a busy and progressive unit.
This position is ideal for a motivated nurse who enjoys teaching, mentoring colleagues, and driving quality improvement while remaining closely connected to frontline clinical practice.
About the Critical Care Service
The Critical Care Unit manages a diverse patient group, including both emergency and planned admissions from multiple specialties. The department has a strong reputation for delivering safe, compassionate, and holistic care, supported by positive patient feedback and strong performance outcomes.
The team is actively involved in clinical audit, research activity, and continuous service improvement, providing an environment where staff are encouraged to expand their knowledge and develop advanced skills.
Main Responsibilities
Education and Workforce Development
- Deliver structured teaching sessions and practical training for nursing staff
- Support competency development for new and existing team members
- Promote evidence-based practice across the critical care workforce
- Act as a role model for professional behaviour and clinical excellence
Clinical Leadership
- Lead by example in maintaining high standards of patient-centred care
- Support staff with clinical decision-making and problem solving
- Assist with workforce planning, supervision, and performance support
- Encourage a proactive culture focused on continuous improvement
Service Quality and Improvement
- Contribute to audit, governance, and quality assurance initiatives
- Support implementation of updated clinical guidelines
- Help ensure compliance with safety, infection prevention, and care standards
- Promote effective communication across the multidisciplinary team
Person Profile
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a Registered Nurse with substantial experience in Critical Care
- Have previously worked at Band 6 level or equivalent
- Demonstrate strong leadership and organisational skills
- Be confident delivering formal classroom-based teaching
- Communicate effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Show flexibility and a positive, solution-focused approach
