Role Overview
An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMNH) or Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) to join the Springwood Unit at Malton Hospital.
This Band 6 role offers the chance to take the next step in your clinical career, combining direct patient care with leadership, supervision, and service improvement responsibilities. You will play a key role in supporting high-quality, recovery-focused care while acting as a role model for junior staff and students.

What You’ll Be Doing
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care within your specialist field
- Lead shifts and contribute to clinical decision-making and risk management
- Apply psychological models of care to support recovery and therapeutic engagement
Supervision, Education & Development
- Provide clinical supervision to individuals or groups, in line with professional standards
- Act as a Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor (or work towards this within 6 months)
- Support, supervise, and assess students on clinical placement
- Contribute to the learning and development of the wider multidisciplinary team
Quality, Governance & Improvement
- Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits
- Apply clinical governance principles to everyday practice
- Support safe medicines management, including injectable medications
- Use research and evidence to inform best practice
Collaborative Working
- Work closely with service users, families, and carers to support person-centred care
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities in line with national guidance

About You
You will be a motivated and confident registered nurse who enjoys developing others while maintaining high clinical standards.
Essential Qualifications
- Current UK registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) (RMNH or RNLD)
NMC registration guidance - Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Practice Supervisor / Practice Assessor or equivalent (or willingness to achieve within 6 months)
- Trained in clinical supervision or willingness to complete training within 6 months
Essential Experience
- Minimum of 18 months post-registration experience, including completion of preceptorship
- Experience working collaboratively with service users and carers
- Experience providing supervision or support to others
- Experience supervising or assessing students
- Active involvement in multidisciplinary team working
- Participation in quality improvement activity
Essential Knowledge
- Strong understanding of evidence-based practice within your field
Working knowledge of key legislation, including:
- Mental Health Act
- Mental Capacity Act
Mental Capacity Act guidance - Sound understanding of safeguarding principles
- Clinical risk assessment and management
- Clinical governance frameworks
- Awareness of research and development methodology
- Knowledge of medicines management and administration
Safeguarding, DBS & Right to Work
This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
