About the Service

The CAMHS Learning Disability Team supports children and young people who present with complex mental health difficulties alongside learning disabilities. We work closely with families, carers, schools and partner agencies to deliver holistic and evidence-based interventions.

You will be part of a collaborative MDT where each professional contributes specialist skills to ensure safe, effective and compassionate care.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver specialist mental health assessment, intervention and care planning for children and young people with learning disabilities
  • Work closely with families and carers to ensure collaborative care delivery
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes and risk management planning
  • Provide and receive clinical supervision
  • Support students in practice placements
  • Participate in quality improvement and service development initiatives
  • Engage in continuous professional development aligned with Trust values
  • You will be well supported by experienced colleagues and clinical leaders within the service.

About You

Essential Qualifications

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (RNMH or RNLD; RNSC for CAMHS roles)
  • NMC registration guidance
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Recognised Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor (or willingness to achieve within 6 months)
  • Training in Clinical Supervision (or willingness to complete within 6 months)

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 18 months post-qualification experience, including completed preceptorship or competency framework
  • Experience working collaboratively with children, young people and families
  • Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Experience supervising or assessing students
  • Participation in quality improvement initiatives

Knowledge & Clinical Expertise

You should demonstrate:

  • Strong understanding of evidence-based practice in child and adolescent mental health
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act 1983
  • MHA guidance
  • Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • MCA guidance
  • Safeguarding knowledge and its practical application
  • Safeguarding overview
  • Clinical risk assessment and management skills
  • Awareness of clinical governance principles
  • Understanding of psychological models of care
  • Safe medicines management, including administration of injections
