An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team in South Durham.
This role is ideal for a motivated and compassionate clinician who is passionate about supporting children and young people experiencing mental health challenges. Working within the “Getting More Help” pathway, you will contribute to delivering meaningful, recovery-focused care that improves outcomes for young people and their families.
Your Role in the Team
As a CAMHS Clinician, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) made up of professionals from nursing, psychology, and social care backgrounds.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Conducting comprehensive mental health assessments for children and young people
Delivering evidence-based interventions and therapeutic support
Working closely with families, carers, and partner organisations
Contributing to care planning, safeguarding, and risk management
Supporting students and junior staff through supervision and mentorship
Participating in service improvement and quality initiatives

What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) (RNMH, RNLD, or equivalent CAMHS-related registration)
Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Practice Supervisor/Assessor qualification (or willingness to achieve within 6 months)
Training in clinical supervision (or willingness to work towards within 6 months)
Experience
- At least 18 months post-qualification experience, including completion of preceptorship
Experience working with children, young people, and families
Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
Experience in supervision, mentoring, or student assessment
Involvement in quality improvement initiatives
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of legislation such as the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
Strong safeguarding knowledge and its practical application
Skills in clinical risk assessment and care planning
Awareness of psychological approaches to treatment
Knowledge of clinical governance and evidence-based practice
Competence in medicines management, including injections
