About the Role
The History Department at the University of Sussex invites applications for a fixed-term Assistant Professor position in Modern History.
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and supervision in nineteenth- and twentieth-century history, delivering lectures, seminars, assessments, and dissertation supervision. You will support undergraduate and postgraduate students, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in departmental activities.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant, research-led department recognized for its interdisciplinary approach and global outlook. The department ranked 4th in the UK for Research Impact in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF).
About You
You will hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in Modern History and demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas:
History of Science
History of Emotions
Global or Connected Histories
In addition, you should have:
An emerging publication record appropriate to your career stage.
Proven teaching experience within the UK Higher Education sector.
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
A demonstrated commitment to student support and academic mentorship.
Experience supervising undergraduate dissertations (desirable).
The ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented academic environment.
