About the Role

The History Department at the University of Sussex invites applications for a fixed-term Assistant Professor position in Modern History. You will contribute to teaching across a range of nineteenth- and twentieth-century History modules, including lectures, seminars, and dissertation supervision. You will also be involved in assessment, marking, and student support.

You will join a dynamic and collaborative History Department that values interdisciplinary study and promotes global and comparative approaches to historical research. The department was ranked 4th for Impact in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.

About You

Applicants should hold a PhD in Modern History. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

History of Science

History of Emotions

Global and Connected Histories

Other desirable attributes include:

An emerging publication record

Teaching experience within the UK higher education sector

Strong communication skills

Ability to support and supervise students (experience with undergraduate dissertations is an advantage)

Ability to work collaboratively within a friendly, team-oriented department
