About the Role

The Assistant Director of Operations is a senior leadership position responsible for the operational management of a designated county within the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT).

You will act as the local face of the Trust, leading by example and ensuring that services are delivered efficiently, safely, and with patient-centred excellence. This role combines strategic planning, operational delivery, and team leadership, providing the opportunity to shape the future of emergency and urgent care across a large and diverse area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership across your county, ensuring high-quality patient care and meeting performance targets
  • Be a role model for staff, embedding the Trust’s values of One Team, Compassion, and Innovation in daily operations
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives and foster a culture of learning and continuous professional development
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships and relationships with internal teams, stakeholders, and external organisations
  • Oversee the operational planning, delivery, and resource management of emergency and urgent care services
  • Promote a positive staff experience through engagement, support, and mentorship

Working Environment

  • The Trust operates 24/7, 365 days a year, covering a region of 10,000 square miles
  • Responds to an average of 2,650 incidents daily, requiring operational efficiency, adaptability, and strong decision-making
