About the Role

Henley Business School is seeking a highly skilled AI Software Engineer to support the development of RMD-Health, an advanced clinical decision-support platform designed to improve early identification and referral of patients with suspected rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs). This innovative programme is funded through the NIHR Invention for Innovation Product Development Award (NIHR206473).

You will work in a multidisciplinary environment alongside AI scientists, clinicians, NHS IT experts and members of the public to bring a clinically safe, technically robust, and regulation-ready prototype to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end architecture, design, and development of the RMD-Health software prototype.
  • Build and optimise agentic AI components capable of autonomous tasks such as data ingestion, data quality checking, and model-driven decision support.
  • Ensure seamless integration with NHS clinical systems through FHIR standards and alignment with NHS Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC).
  • Collaborate with the Machine Learning Engineer to embed ML models, explainable AI features, and decision-support algorithms into the platform.
  • Develop secure data pipelines for processing pseudonymised NHS referral data, compliant with GDPR and NHS Information Governance requirements.
  • Work with clinicians and user groups to iteratively refine the system via workshops, interviews, and pilot-testing sessions.
  • Contribute to documentation required for UKCA/CE regulatory submissions for AI as a Medical Device (AIaMD).
  • Support dissemination efforts including publications, conference presentations, and project reporting.
  • Operate effectively within a multi-partner research team and deliver milestones within agreed timelines.
