Job Description
Location: Brighton, UK
Salary: Grade 8 – up to £62,728 per annum (pro rata for part-time).
Includes an additional market supplement increasing the salary to a maximum of £79,084 until December 2026 (subject to review).
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full-time) or part-time considered up to 1 FTE. Flexible working options available, subject to business needs.
Contract Type: Permanent

As our new Data Architect, you’ll play a key role in shaping the university’s data future. Working across multiple projects and digital initiatives, you’ll be instrumental in developing data models, standards, and technologies that unlock the true value of our data assets. This includes supporting the advancement of data analytics, reporting, AI, and integration platforms, as well as leading data migration initiatives.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-level data models and frameworks
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across IT Services and wider university departments
- Champion data integration, governance, and architecture best practices
- Support the delivery of cutting-edge reporting and analytics capabilities
- Contribute to the development of innovative data-driven solutions in alignment with the Sussex 2035 strategy
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a data-focused professional with:
- Proven experience as a Data Architect or in a similar data leadership role
- Strong knowledge of data architecture principles, data modelling, and integration techniques
- Hands-on experience with data processing, reporting, and analytics tools
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
- Familiarity with architectural standards such as TOGAF, Archimate, BPMN, DMN, or equivalent frameworks
- Experience using modelling tools would be advantageous
